RANONG'S 1st GOVERNOR
Ranong has a long history. The first Ranong Prince was Praya Damrong Sujarit Mahisonpakdi or in chinese Kor Su Chiang. He was from China, he first went to Phuket to mine tin. Later he moved to Ranong, his first job was tax collection and then promoted to governor. The ancient house was built in 1877. It houses the Na Ranong family shrine, to this day the ashes of the Ranong family are kept here. Outside the shrine you will see a sign that means "The Highest Sun". If you walk around the ruins you will see old water ducts, these brought hot water form the HOT SPRINGS so the elite could bath in comfort. Also you can see the old gun house which now has a magnificent "BANYAN" tree growing through it. Well worth a visit. ( if you are lucky a direct family member will give you a tour.) Su Chiang is my son's (Jack) great, great, great, great Grandfather. As you can imagine there is a lot of personal history here which I enjoy researching.
